"Stories from the Underground: The Churchyards of Charleston" Book

 

Finally! After a lengthy delay due to the current supply chain problems, I received my first 100 books on Sept. 27, 2022.

This piece I wrote earlier this year details the makeup of "The Churchyards of Charleston" as does this post listing 10 of my gravesites in the book. 

Upon delivery, I carefully opened one box and inspected my long-awaited book. It has been worth the wait! It looks (and reads) great!

Four years in the works, "Stories from the Underground: The Churchyards of Charleston" examines the Holy City's rich, interesting and diverse history through the prism of its religious burial grounds. 

The book's main focus is the 13 historic downtown churches, one synagogue, and their respective graveyards and cemeteries. 

At the end of the book, I also cover the recently designated Charleston Cemetery Historic District located near Magnolia Cemetery (about which I have written two previous books- see information about those books on this site).

I have interior photographs of each house of worship. Each one is so beautiful with many interesting and historic details! Above is the St. John's Lutheran Church and below is St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church.
