Dutch Photos in CNPA Magazine

I was excited to open up the latest issue of the Carolinas' Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) magazine and find this piece on page 1!

I had submitted my Amsterdam article and photos several months ago. A few issues of the magazine came out during that time without my story included, so I had pretty much given up on it running. 

So it was truly a "Dutch delight" to see it in this issue. I emailed the editor and effusively thanked her.  Cindy Landrum did a fine job condensing the text, selecting and laying out the piece.

Amsterdam- A Darn Good Time!

Previously, I posted my "Birds of Amsterdam"

pictorial, showing 15 or so different types of birds I photographed during a visit to The Netherlands in December. This post showcases many of the other things Alesia and I did during the three days we had together in this old European city.  

Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is quite a complex with a large shopping mall and an easy inside walk to some hotels. 

Our hotel, the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, was big and beautiful, and as the name suggests, very close to the city's Schiphol Airort. Check out the curling sheet in the lobby shown below. That’s what the sport’s court or playing surface is called, I just learned.

The Birds of The Netherlands

In December I made a short visit to Amsterdam where Alesia has been working with her consulting job. What a thrill for me to head back to Europe for the first time since being born in what was then West Germany more than half a century ago!

We had three days to explore the ancient city and really packed in a lot. Visited Museums included the Rembrandt House, Van Gogh, Dutch WWII Resistance, Jewish Holocaust, Maritime, and "Our Lord in the Attic." Each was so amazing and interesting.

Amsterdam's public train, tram and bus systems are really good. And kudos to Alesia for purchasing for us I Am Amsterdam cards, which for one set fee gave us hassle (and Euro) free access to all transportation needed and dozens of Amsterdam's best sites and attractions.
