On the Waterfront in Charleston

 

A continuing benefit of subscribing to the Post and Courier newspaper is becoming aware of events around the Lowcountry. 

Recent news of the upcoming Charleston Race Week was a case in point. I held on to the article announcing the big annual regatta to be held April 16-19. This would, in fact, be the 30th annual race week. 

A week or so out I penciled in Friday morning for my opportunity to check it out. I had an 8:30 a.m. medical appointment I felt wouldn’t take too long (it didn’t). I then needed to hit the post office to mail a new Amazon book sale (first one in a while-yay!).

Soon enough I was at Waterfront Park where I came upon a photo or video shoot by the iconic Pineapple Fountain.

My exploration of places to see the big ships of Charleston took me recently to Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. 

I was hoping to see at least one huge container ship steam by on the Cooper River heading into port or going the other direction out to sea. 

It was a pretty day for photography, right? My plan was to first visit a store in Mount Pleasant and then go to the park. But as I drove on the bridge I could see a container ship heading my way. So I called an audible and hurried to park at the park. 

My hustle paid off as I arrived in time to see a Maersk shipping line vessel approaching the bridge. 

I’m interested in capturing images that show the massive scale of these ocean-faring ships that transport thousands of containers each voyage around the world. 

Weird Water Creature!

A few months ago Alesia and I came across this unusual sight near Charleston's Waterfront Park.  It seemed to be emerging from the harbor.  From a different angle the "monster" appeared headless!

There was just something in the air that day and night that was making the natural word very unnatural!
