Hankering to Hike? Check Out Dungannon!

The entrance is easy to miss if you drive by too quickly!
This is a remote place not too far south of Charleston that is perfect if you hanker to hike.

This website gives a bit of information about the Dungannon Heritage Preserve/Wildlife Management Area. It is located off Highway 162 between Rantowles and Hollywood.

Birds and Pigs Oh My!

The Dungannon Heritage Preserve in rural Charleston County is such a hidden treasure, especially this time of year when the woodstork rookery is really rockin'. Here are some pix from an outing this week. Surprises also included spotting some wild pigs and turkeys. In one tree an osprey nest is at the very top and below are several woodstork nests with little ones poking out (can be seen with binoculars and/or long camera lens).

Pretty Yellow Bird

Spotted this colorful bird, determined later to be a prothonotary warbler, at Dungannon Heritage Preserve in rural Charleston County. Just gorgeous!
