Fireworks and Patriotism on Hilton Head!

We had a really nice time spending the 4th of July on Hilton Head Island. We took in the fireworks show at Shelter Cove, a "mixed use" community on the island.

This was just outside the restaurant where we had a fine dinner.  More on the restaurant to come.

We finished our meal an hour or so before the fireworks commenced. It was neat seeing the festive crowd slowly gather at Shelter Cove. We sat on a bench where we spoke for a while to a young family from the Atlanta area.

This is where we ate: ELA'S Blu Water Grille

ELA'S had indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for inside since it was rather warm outside. Great water views right?

The dinner of shrimp and grits was excellent, as was the key lime pie dessert.

Earlier in the day at the beach, there was a neat patriotic scene and vibe as a woman holding a large American flag rallied people to gather for the scheduled 1:30 July 4th military fly over.

A Charleston-based C-17 Globemaster took part in the event, as did an older World War II-era plane. A pair of F-16s zoomed far out to sea by but I was unable to get a photograph.

This was the perfect day to rock my new red, white and blue hat!

I created this flag in the sand using small shells to represent the 13 colonies. “Don’t Tread on Me” but a few people did by accident and one jerk did so on purpose, I feel.

Our room at the Marriott Hotel was very comfortable. We received an upgrade to an ocean view, so that was sweet!

Didn’t get a king size bed, but the trade off was worth it.

Here is the view we enjoyed. Also, we were on the second floor. That meant we didn’t have to use the hotel elevator, not once.

Many of our fellow Marriott guests opted for the pool.

We, of course, chose the beach.

It was pretty crowded as you would expect for this major summer holiday.

The water temperature was purrr-fect!

I took this photo from our hotel room. I couldn’t tell what was out there via the naked eye. Just two dudes fishing in a small boat.

We have stayed at this Marriott resort before, a few times actually.  Most recently, we stayed here two years ago for our wedding anniversary.

This was a great time again. Thank you Alesia!

Hilton Head, like Myrtle Beach to the north- what a treasure to have these two high quality coastal destinations just a few hours away from Charleston.
