Hilton Head island Weekend Getaway

 

“Spring Break” for college students (and their professors) is a bit of a misnomer. The weeklong midterm break comes when it’s still winter. Spring begins on March 20. My SC State Spring Break began March 6. 

For me, the break began even earlier on March 3 when we headed a couple hours south to Hilton Head Island. The proximity isn’t a “staycation” but it’s not far from it. 

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and Spa is a great for a weekend getaway any time of the year.

I woke up Sunday morning at 6:40, just in time to catch the sunrise from our third floor room (above).

The frame of our balcony made a nice composition for the dawn of a new day. We were blessed with nice weather all weekend!

Fireworks and Patriotism on Hilton Head!

 

We had a really nice time spending the 4th of July on Hilton Head Island. We took in the fireworks show at Shelter Cove, a "mixed use" community on the island. 

This was just outside the restaurant where we had a fine dinner.  More on the restaurant to come. 

We finished our meal an hour or so before the fireworks commenced. It was neat seeing the festive crowd slowly gather at Shelter Cove. We sat on a bench where we spoke for a while to a young family from the Atlanta area.

Hilton Head Sunrises = Spectacular!

 

Spending 4th of July on Hilton Head Island was a blast- as were the fireworks we saw at Shelter Cove (see my post that follows this one).  

We were able to swing an oceanfront room at the Marriott Resort and Spa at Palmetto Dunes. 

Early 🦅 that I am, both mornings of our stay I was locked and loaded (camera I mean) and on the beach just after 6 a.m. 

The water temperature was perfect for a sunrise dip in the ocean!  And during the day too when we were on the beach.

Heavenly Hilton Head

It was a great getaway for several days this month to head down the coast to Hilton Head Island. It was our 35th wedding anniversary so pandemic or not we planned a special trip. A Caribbean island would have been nice but with so many travel concerns, Hilton Head made sense being in state and not too far away plus it is a world-class resort with beautiful beaches and excellent restaurants.

Monday, July 13- the dawn of a new day. Special one for us as it was our 35th wedding anniversary. The next ones I took Tuesday morning.

Yay Hilton Head Vacay!

I have so been looking forward to our long-planned vacation in Hilton Head! It marks a transition week between the just ended school year and a summer full of home improvement, book projects and other to-do items.

I will chronicle our Hilton Head trip with photos. Lots of rain was forecast, which had us worried. We end up getting two clear and sunny days for what we really wanted to do: soak up some sun on the beach.

Five days on Hilton Head was a blast. Friday we drove the short distance to Savannah to have dinner and spend the night. Our trip culminated in a short visit to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
