Terrace Oaks Antiques Event Saturday, Dec. 10

 My upcoming book signing at Terrace Oaks Antiques Mall, 2037 Maybank Hwy. in Charleston, has me even more excited after seeing this large advertisement in yesterday’s Post and Courier newspaper. 

Thank you Terrace Oaks owner Camille Wish for doing this. I’m quite honored and flattered and I am sure the publicity will bring extra good sales to us on Saturday! I also have Camille to thank for my speaking event to her Rotary Club last month. I met her several years ago at Bethel United Methodist Church when she gave a talk to my College of Charleston “Beyond the Grave” class.  The below photo by Hannah Sills was taken in March 2019.

St. Mary of the Annunciation a Shining Signing Success!

 

Alesia and I met so many nice people at yesterday’s Sunday book signing at this beautiful old church on Hasell Street downtown. 

St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church dates to the 1830s and is the oldest Catholic church in America south of Virginia. 

The church recently received an exterior paint job. Inside, there are scaffolds behind the altar for work inside. 

Fun First Signing Event

Saturday, Oct. 8 was a beautiful fall day, perfect weather for a book signing outdoors. This was in my North Charleston neighborhood, Coosaw Creek. I received permission to have the event in the covered area near the pool. The spot is referred to as the cabana. 

Orangeburg Book Signing a Fun Day!

On Saturday, Dec. 22, just a few days before Christmas, I was part of a book signing at Swift Books in Orangeburg. The shop, owned by Dean and Edie Swift, is located on Chestnut Street in the Five Rivers Market antique mall.

I love the antique mall!  Before leaving I returned nearly half the money I made selling books after buying some Christmas gifts for the family.

Successful Saturday Signing! And a Lifer Bird Too!

My Saturday, Dec. 15 book signing went really well! Thanks to those who came out and bought my Birds of Magnolia Cemetery book.  It's always nice to meet fellow bird and nature lovers!  Thanks also to the cemetery's super superintendent Beverly Donald for making this event possible!  

My next signing is this Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the College of Charleston. I'll have a table on Cougar Mall in front of the Robert Scott Small building from noon- 2. Call or text me at 843.224.3112 if you need help with directions.

You know I never go to Magnolia Cemetery without my camera. And I'm sure glad I did as I scored some nice photos of a Merlin (which I originally thought was a Hawk). Merlins are members of the Falcon family. 

 

Through my lens and binoculars it was hard to tell what the Merlin had caught and was eating. It wasn't until I got home and viewed the shots on my television and computer that I determined it was a bird. The Audubon Field Guide online confirms that Merlins feed mostly on small birds captured in high-speed mid-air pursuit. That is what Falcons are known for.

I am updating this post in July 2024. I came across these photos and this old post while this summer updating my "Birds of Magnolia Cemetery" book. Pretty cool to discover a "lifer" bird 12 years after the fact!
